news | introduction | experiments | exhibitions | CV | contact been stranded with injury, nearly died, but finally survived after a week 2017–2024, Sharing a story only with the purchaser who respects the silence I have kept, gifting a memento, signing a contract *Sold in April 2024 I used to be a backpacker, wandering around various places, so I possess many interesting stories, and I never run out of things to talk about. It’s fun to tell these stories in an entertaining way and be praised for it, but when my precious experiences are consumed lightly, it hurts a bit. I also feel hurt by my own shallowness, exaggerating these valuable memories to make them more amusing for others. In order to escape from such human flaws, I devised this project so that these important experiences of mine would reach those who truly value them: someone willing to pay for them and treat them with care. The price for "#3: memory of having been caught in a landslide while mountaineering in Patagonia, South America, tumbled all the way down, been stranded with injury, nearly died, but finally survived after a week," sold in the spring of 2024, was 68,871 JPY. This amount corresponds to the total number of steps I took during the week of my ordeal, recorded by my iPhone. Process: 1. I sell the ownership of a valuable memory that I have never shared with anyone before. 2. A contract is signed with the buyer. The contract certifies that ownership of the memory has been transferred from me, the person who experienced it, to the buyer. It also states my promise never to speak about that memory again. 3. I narrate the memory to the buyer only once, after which I will remain completely silent. I will also give the buyer a memento related to the memory. 4. The buyer is free to speak about or remain silent regarding the memory as they wish. Details: *Contract to sign with the purchaser *Related video (HD video, 7 minutes 23 seconds, made in 2019) based on the illusion I saw in the starry sky when I stuck out my head from the tent while I was lost in the mountain. The phrase 'estás muriendo' appearing in the last scene means 'you are dying'. *Memento gifted to the purchase of Memories ON SALE #3 is a fragment of the actual emergency sheet I wrapped myself with while I was lost in the mountain (used 2017, framed 2024). |
